In a major escalation, an American F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jet was shot down over southern Iran. The aircraft was downed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). While the pilot successfully ejected, the American fighter pilot may be in IRGC custody, though this is not officially confirmed. Following the crash, the United States immediately launched a comprehensive combat search and rescue operation deep inside Iranian territory. The rescue team deployed HC-130J Combat King II aircraft and helicopters, engaging in evasive manoeuvres by firing flares and chaffs to dodge hostile surface-to-air missiles. Despite these efforts, the extraction mission has not yet succeeded, and US aircraft were forced to move back amid hostile fire. Visuals from the crash site confirmed the aircraft’s tail fin and ejection seat. Additionally, the IRGC claimed to have destroyed a second F-35 fighter jet over central Iran, a claim denied by the United States Central Command. The potential capture of an American pilot could significantly alter the ongoing conflict’s dynamics.
