A New York City Police Department officer was tragically killed and at least two civilians were injured in a shooting incident that unfolded in Midtown Manhattan on Monday evening. Police had converged on the area around 345 Park Avenue, a high-rise building housing major corporate offices including the NFL and Blackstone, following initial reports of an active shooter. The suspect, identified as Shane Tamura of Nevada, was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the 33rd floor of the building.
The incident triggered a massive law enforcement response, with heavily armed NYPD officers, the bomb squad, and FBI agents securing the scene and evacuating the area during the evening rush hour. New York City Mayor Eric Adams urged residents to avoid the vicinity of East 51st and Park Avenue as the investigation was underway. While the immediate threat has been contained, the investigation into the motive behind the shooting remains active. The city mourns the loss of the officer and wishes a swift recovery to the injured.
