The United States and Israel have conducted strikes targeting over a thousand locations in Iran overnight, with multiple missile sites, airfields, aircraft, missile manufacturing facilities, and command and control structures destroyed. According to an unidentified speaker, Israeli defence forces and American forces are targeting more than 2,500 Iranian military sites as part of Operation Roaring Lion. The operation aims to systematically degrade Iran’s offensive and defensive capabilities, including its Basij, Navy, and Air Force bases. The strikes represent a wider scope compared to previous operations in April, dealing with the entire military capability of the Iranian regime. An unidentified defence analyst notes that Iran appears to be using low-cost drones, including Shahed 136s, while keeping more sophisticated ballistic missiles and hypersonic missiles in reserve. The analyst explains that Iran is employing a cost asymmetry strategy, forcing allies to expend expensive interceptor missiles on cheaper drones.
