The United States and Israel have been attacking Iran for over three days in operations named Epic Fury and Roaring Lion, targeting regime change through decapitation strikes and aiming to destroy Iran’s missile capabilities. Iran has retaliated by firing ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones across West Asia, targeting eight countries including the six Gulf Cooperative Council nations—Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE and Oman—as well as Jordan and Cyprus. Iran’s strategy focuses on regime continuity, a mosaic command structure dividing the country into 30 independent cells, and economic warfare targeting hotels, airports and refineries in Gulf monarchies. Iran’s arsenal centres on a triad of weapons: Shahid 136 kamikaze drones, cruise missiles like the Saumar, and solid and liquid-fuelled ballistic missiles controlled by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Council Aerospace Forces. Gulf countries rely on advanced air defence systems including the Terminal High Altitude Aerial Defense system and Patriot missiles, while Iran’s air defences remain weak with limited S-300 and HQ-9 batteries.
