Since February 28, the United States and Israel have conducted nearly 2,000 strikes across 29 of Iran’s 31 provinces, including Tehran, resulting in over 1,400 fatalities. The U.S. has flown 6,000 combat sorties aiming to degrade Iran’s missile capabilities. In response, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Sayyed Abbas Araqi, stated Tehran has not sought a ceasefire or talks. The conflict has disrupted global shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. However, Indian diplomatic efforts have secured safe passage for some vessels. The LPG tanker Shivalik arrived at Mundra Port with over 40,000 metric tons of LPG, and the Nanda Devi is also en route to India. India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar confirmed ongoing, case-by-case negotiations with Tehran, though 22 Indian-flagged ships remain in the Gulf. Professor Robert A. Pape of the University of Chicago has warned the conflict is widening.
