The White House says the United States is developing a plan to secure shipping through the strategic Strait of Hormuz amid rising tensions in the region.
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the effort is aimed at protecting oil tanker transit through the critical waterway, one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes.
Leavitt said the United States Department of Defense and the United States Department of Energy are coordinating the response. She added that the United States Navy could escort oil tankers if necessary to ensure safe passage through the strait.
However, the White House declined to provide a timeline for any potential deployment. The development comes as concerns grow about disruptions to global oil supply routes.
