Defence analysts suggest Trump may be seeking an off-ramp after Iran demonstrated resilience by shutting down the Straits of Hormuz, where 20% of the world’s oil and gas flows, and expanding attacks to Gulf Cooperation Council countries. However, experts remain cautious, noting the US may be buying time to deploy additional amphibious ready groups to the Persian Gulf. Iran has not yet responded to Trump’s announcement, and the next 24 to 48 hours remain crucial for determining whether this leads to lasting peace or temporary truce.
