The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) says around 3,500 additional U.S. troops have arrived in the Middle East aboard the USS Tripoli (LHA-7). The deployment includes sailors and marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, along with transport and strike fighter aircraft and amphibious assault assets.
CENTCOM said the forces entered its area of responsibility on March 27 as part of the Tripoli Amphibious Ready Group. The move comes as U.S. President Donald Trump claims negotiations are underway to end the war on Iran. The U.S. military is also expected to deploy additional troops from the 82nd Airborne Division.
