Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health (Lebanon) says Israeli air strikes have killed at least 72 people and wounded 437 others since fighting began earlier this week.
The casualty figures come as Israel launches strikes across multiple areas of Lebanon following rocket and drone attacks by Hezbollah on Israel.
Lebanese officials say the violence has forced tens of thousands from their homes. The country’s Ministry of Social Affairs (Lebanon) reports that more than 83,847 people have been displaced and are currently staying in official shelters.
Hezbollah says its attacks were retaliation for a US-Israeli strike on Iran that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The latest escalation has heightened fears of a wider regional conflict in the Middle East.
