Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem has said the group is ready for a “long confrontation” with Israel, warning that Israeli threats would not deter the organisation.
In a televised address, Qassem said the battle with Israel is an “existential battle” and declared that the “enemy’s threats do not frighten us”. He also dismissed Israeli threats to assassinate him, calling them “worthless”.
Qassem rejected claims that Hezbollah is acting as an Iranian proxy, saying the fight with Israel “is Lebanese”. He also said the group resumed rocket fire after the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
A ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah was agreed in November 2024, but Hezbollah says Israeli strikes on Lebanon have continued since then.
