On day 27 of the West Asia war, focus has shifted to Iran’s Kharg Island, which handles nearly 90 percent of the country’s oil exports. Media reports indicate the Pentagon is sending thousands of troops to West Asia, including elite airborne paratroopers, amid speculation of a possible US plan to seize the island. Iran is fortifying the island, laying mines and deploying troops in response. Iranian Speaker warned that intelligence suggests enemies are planning to occupy an Iranian island and threatened continuous attacks on vital infrastructure if any such step is taken. The White House stated that formal congressional authorization is not necessary as the US is currently in major combat operations in Iran, with military operations expected to complete within four to six weeks. Meanwhile, Iran has allowed ships from India, Russia, China, Pakistan, Iraq and Bangladesh safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
