Breaking news suggests discussions are underway for a possible ceasefire between the United States and Iran in return for reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Reports indicate Iran may permit free passage through the strait for all ships except warships, though USS aircraft carrier strike groups would not be allowed to operate in the Persian Gulf. Hundreds of ships carrying oil, gas and other cargo remain bottled up in the Persian Gulf, with tens of thousands of crewmen on board. The conflict has created what is being described as the worst energy crisis the world has faced since 1973, affecting everything from fertilizers ahead of sowing season to helium supplies needed for AI chip production. Iran has maintained that ceasefire will only happen if America retreats, stating their actions have been retaliatory and defensive in nature. Questions emerge about whether reopening the Strait of Hormuz, which was open before 28th February, constitutes a victory for the United States after 33 days of conflict.
