A recent U.S. intelligence report reaffirms a long-standing Indian position: while China is regarded as the primary strategic threat, Pakistan is seen as a secondary or "ancillary" security challenge. Despite this distinction, former U.S. President Donald Trump previously characterized the Indo-Pakistan conflict as a centuries-old rivalry, minimizing Pakistan’s role as a state sponsor of terrorism.
The report also sheds light on Pakistan’s continued development of tactical nuclear weapons designed to counter India’s conventional military advantage. In response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made it clear that India will no longer tolerate nuclear blackmail or terrorist provocations, vowing that any such acts will be met with firm responses on India’s terms.
