The tariff war between India and the United States has escalated, with the US imposing 25% tariffs on India. The US State Secretary has stated that India’s oil purchases from Russia are a significant point of irritation, saying that the deals are helping to sustain Russia’s war efforts. According to the US State Secretary, President Trump is frustrated with the India-Russia oil deal and has indicated India will be penalized for it. In a related development, the US has also imposed sanctions on seven Indian companies associated with Iran’s petroleum sector. This comes as President Trump has been attempting to mediate a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia since taking office in January.
