US Imposes 25% Additional Tariff; India Weighs Counter-Measures, Swadeshi Call Grows | India Today

The United States has imposed an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods, including textiles, shrimp, gems, and leather. In response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting to soften the economic blow, stating India’s national interest is the top priority. US President Donald Trump cited India’s continued purchase of Russian oil as justification for the tariffs. Amid the tariff fightback, yoga guru Baba Ramdev has called for a ‘Swadeshi’ approach, urging a boycott of American products. A resurfaced clip of Prime Minister Modi from a podcast interview with Zerodha CEO Nikhil Kamat is also going viral, where he stated, "my risk-taking abilities had not been fully utilised." Meanwhile, industry leaders like Asad Iraqi of the Council for Leather Exports are exploring new markets in Russia, Africa, and the UK to counter the impact. #ustariffs #tradewar #indiausrelations #itwebvideos #swadeshi #boycottamericanproducts #babaramdev #narendramodi #makeinindia #indianeconomy #tarifffight #economicnews #ganeshchaturthi #indiafightsback #vocalforlocal #indiatoday
