Following a fourth US-Israeli attack near the Bushehr nuclear power plant, Iran’s foreign minister has issued a stern warning about the potential for a severe radiological release. In a formal letter to the UN chief, the Iranian government condemned the strikes, emphasising that the attacks expose the entire region to a significant risk of radioactive contamination. The foreign minister highlighted the geographical vulnerabilities, noting that the Bushehr facility is located in close proximity to major Gulf cities. Specifically, the plant is situated just 280 kilometres from Kuwait City and 400 kilometres from Doha, compared to its 750-kilometre distance from Tehran. Consequently, any radiation leak would disproportionately impact the Gulf nations rather than the Iranian capital. The recent US-Israeli strikes mark a continuous targeting of the nuclear site, raising widespread alarms over the environmental and human consequences of a potential disaster.
