United States special operations forces, including SEAL Team 6 commandos, successfully executed a daring rescue mission deep inside Iranian territory to extract a wounded Air Force weapons officer. The officer’s F-15E Strike Eagle was shot down, and he successfully evaded capture for 48 hours in southern Isfahan before sending a coded message, ‘God is good’, to alert the Pentagon. Supported by the CIA, the operation involved high-level deception tactics, including spreading false information that the rescue had already occurred to buy time. The extraction faced significant complications when two C-130J evacuation planes became stuck in sand at a makeshift airstrip. US forces deployed three additional aircraft to complete the mission, ultimately destroying the disabled planes to prevent them from falling into Iranian hands. While the operation cost an estimated quarter of a billion dollars, the US suffered no casualties, reinforcing the ‘no man left behind’ doctrine. The mission included air strikes on Iranian convoys to ensure the safe recovery of all personnel.
