Discussions hinge significantly on the status of the Strait of Hormuz, which has seen no movement since the war began, triggering a global energy crisis. Trade routes through the Bab el-Mandeb strait also remain destabilised by Houthi control. Iran continues to demand the right to a civil nuclear enrichment programme, a condition the US finds difficult to accept due to concerns over weapons-grade uranium.
