US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick arrived in India for discussions on trade and economic ties with Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal. US Ambassador Eric Garcetti also attended the meeting. Piyush Goyal shared on social media that the discussions were fruitful and aimed at expanding the trade and economic partnership between the two nations. The visit comes shortly after the US Supreme Court’s tariff ruling and follows the postponement of a planned Indian delegation trip to Washington DC in February for legal discussions on a bilateral trade agreement. Indian exporters currently face a 10 percent tariff on exports to the US, with approximately 40 percent of Indian exports remaining outside reciprocal tariffs. India awaits further clarity from the US administration on the trade deal framework, which had been expected to be signed in March before being delayed by the Supreme Court order.
