The chair of the United States National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has stated that recent media reports concerning the probe into the Air India crash in Ahmedabad are premature and speculative. The NTSB has backed the investigation being conducted by India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB). This follows the crash of an Air India Boeing Dreamliner on June 12th, which resulted in 260 fatalities. An initial report from the AAIB noted confusion in the cockpit regarding the fuel engine cutoff switches. Some international media outlets used this information and cockpit voice recordings to speculate about the cause. The NTSB chair, Jennifer Homendy, has now endorsed the AAIB’s call for restraint, stating that such reports are "premature and speculative" and confirming that the AAIB is the sole source for official statements on the ongoing investigation.
