After months of back and forth and one particularly tense White House meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump, US and Ukraine have finally signed a rare earth minerals deal.
Broadly speaking, the deal gives the US preferential access to Ukraine’s store of valuable rare earth minerals in return for less than specific benefits for Ukraine.
While the exact details of the deal remain vague, both sides have spoken of it in glowing terms.
The US described it as a ‘win-win’ deal and said that it sends a clear signal to Russia that America is committed to a peace process centered on a ‘free, sovereign and prosperous’ Ukraine.
