Union Minister Scindia Clarifies Sanchar Saathi App Not Mandatory, Says Users Can Uninstall It

In a significant clarification regarding the Sanchar Saathi app, Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has stated that the application is not mandatory. Addressing concerns about privacy and ‘snooping’ raised by the opposition, Scindia emphasized that users have the full option to uninstall the app if they wish. He explained that the government’s primary aim is to protect citizens from cyber fraud, citing that ‘baees hazaar Aath sau karod rupee’ (22,800 crore rupees) were lost to fraud in 2024 alone. Scindia remarked, ‘If you want to delete it, delete it… but it is our responsibility to reach every person to protect them from fraud.’ The Minister dismissed the opposition’s claims as baseless politicization, asserting the app is a tool for safety, not surveillance.
