Union Minister Bhupender Yadav Defends New Aravalli Definition, Blames Congress For Illegal Mining

In this special report, Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav addresses the controversy over the new definition of the Aravalli hill range. Responding to concerns that the new 100-meter elevation criteria would exclude 99% of the hills, Yadav argues that the 1.47 lakh square kilometre figure includes entire districts rather than just the hill range. He strongly counters the opposition’s criticism by pointing to the previous Congress government’s record in Rajasthan. Yadav states, ‘Even today, out of the 1,008 mines operating in Rajasthan, 700 of them were mined during the time of Ashok Galloji .’ He further details the Supreme Court-appointed committee’s role, which included the Forest Survey of India (FSI) and the Geological Survey of India (GSI), in standardizing the definition across four states.
