Astronomers have discovered a bizarre ultrahot Jupiter located 858 light-years from Earth that is literally shedding its atmosphere into space. Observations reveal two enormous helium tails stretching millions of kilometres, shaped by extreme heat and powerful stellar radiation. Using the James Webb Space Telescope, scientists tracked this atmospheric escape across the planet’s entire orbit for the first time. The findings offer rare insight into how extreme exoplanets evolve and slowly lose their gaseous envelopes.
