A breakdown of the UAE’s air defence system reveals a three-layered structure designed to intercept Iranian attacks. The system includes the long-range Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD), the medium-range Patriot PAC-3, and the short-range Pantsir gun missiles. The UAE government claims the system can intercept approximately 90 per cent of Israeli attacks, though the transcript appears to reference Iranian attacks. Iran has fired over 1,700 projectiles at the UAE, with an estimated 40 to 50 getting through. Analysis shows Iran has launched more drones at the UAE (over 893) than at Israel, though more ballistic missiles (300 plus) have been fired at Israel. Most ballistic missiles have been intercepted, with the majority of damage caused by Shahid 136 drones targeting critical infrastructure including airports. Iran’s strategy appears focused on horizontal escalation, widening the conflict zone across the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
