U.S. Freezes Foreign Trucker Visas After Deadly Crash Involving Indian Driver | India Today News

The United States has immediately paused issuing worker visas for commercial truck drivers. The move comes after a fatal crash that involved an Indian driver. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the decision on Thursday, citing public safety concerns and the need to protect American jobs. In a statement on Platform X, Rubio said, "The increasing number of foreign drivers operating large tractor trailer trucks on [U.S.] road is endangering American lives and undercutting the livelihoods of American truckers." This action is part of the Trump administration’s broader policy of reviewing visas, with a reported 55 million U.S. visas currently under review. The review process also involves exhaustive social media vetting and could impact many H1B, J1, and student visa holders, potentially creating a chaotic process and affecting U.S. logistic supply chains.
