TVK chief and actor Vijay is set to hold a private meeting with the bereaved families in Mahabalipuram, a month after the incident. According to party sources, ‘media and party members are barred from attending this meeting’, which is being held at a hotel after families were transported from Karur in buses arranged by the TVK. In a major legal development, the Supreme Court has ordered a CBI probe into the stampede, which will be monitored by a committee headed by former Supreme Court judge Ajay Rastogi. The court has directed the CBI chief to appoint a senior officer to lead the investigation, citing the need for a fair and impartial inquiry into the tragedy that it said has "shaken the national conscience".
