Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor Vijay appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today for a second round of questioning regarding the 2025 Karur stampede tragedy. The actor, summoned in his capacity as a witness, stated he is ‘not responsible for what happened as far as the Karur stampede is concerned’. The investigation focuses on a critical seven-hour delay in Vijay’s arrival at the political rally, which allegedly caused the crowd to swell beyond permissible limits, leading to the deaths of 41 people. CBI officials are scrutinising why Vijay continued his speech for several minutes after the chaos began and whether the TVK party implemented adequate crowd control and safety measures. The agency is also corroborating Vijay’s statements with those provided by Tamil Nadu government and police officials to fix accountability for the tragedy. Vijay had previously requested a break for the Pongal festivities before resuming the probe at the CBI headquarters in Delhi.
