Uncertainty hangs over the next round of India-US trade talks, which were expected to take place in New Delhi later this month, after a tariff showdown was forced by the US. There is no confirmation from Washington D.C. on the dates or the composition of the visiting delegation. While India remains committed to negotiations, it has specified its non-negotiables, particularly in the agriculture and dairy sectors. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal stated in Parliament that India must protect the interests of its MSMEs, farmers, and small producers. India has also made it clear that any attempt by the US to link the trade dialogue with India’s energy purchases or its strategic relations with other countries would be counterproductive.
