The White House has hinted that Gulf nations might be asked to pay the United States for the war, despite already bearing the brunt of Iranian attacks. Gulf allies of the US, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates, are facing destruction from Iranian strikes targeting US military bases in their territories. The US has around 19 military bases in West Asia. These countries were not informed about the joint US-Israel strike on Iran but have been under attack since. Qatar’s Ras Laffan gas facility alone requires an estimated $20 billion and six months to a year to rebuild. President Donald Trump has expressed interest in making allies pay for American military presence and security services. The US military has requested $200 billion in authorisation for the conflict. Gulf nations are already purchasing US military hardware, including missile interceptors and air defence systems.
