Speaking from the Oval Office at the White House, US President Trump said that he had approved a design for a $175 billion missile defence system labelled the Golden Dome. Space Force chief General Michael Guetlein has been tasked to lead the effort. Based on Israel’s Iron Dome system, America’s ‘Golden Dome’ will likely make use of a constellation of satellites that will track and even intercept incoming missiles. While Trump may have been inspired by the Iron Dome, experts say his proposed Golden Dome will be far more complex and expensive compared to the Israeli system.
