President Donald Trump has signed tariff letters to 12 countries, offering ‘take it or leave it’ deals ahead of the July 9 deadline. The US had suspended tariffs over 10 percent for 90 days to allow time for negotiations. Trump stated that 12 to 15 letters with different tariff rates will be sent out on Monday, with some following on Tuesday and Wednesday. The US has finalized agreements only with the UK and Vietnam, with an interim truce reached with China. Talks with major trading partners like Japan and the European Union have not yielded breakthroughs. Sources indicate that India and the US have completed trade talks with a positive outlook, potentially benefiting India’s labor-intensive sectors while addressing concerns in agriculture and dairy sectors. Trump said, ‘Tariffs go into effect August 1st. But the President is setting the rates and the deals right now.’
