In a prime-time national address, Biden said political passions can run high but “we must never descend into violence.”
Biden also said Americans should "lower the temperature in our politics."
Biden’s campaign team is grappling with how to manage the political implications of a shooting targeting the man the president hopes to defeat in November’s election. Calibrating the right tone going forward could be especially challenging.
Biden’s address from the Oval office came after an attack on Former President Donald Trump at his Pennsylvania election rally.
