US President Donald Trump made a crude remark while describing America’s relationship with Saudi Arabia under his presidency. Recounting his conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Trump claimed the Saudi leader did not expect a strong US comeback. Trump said Mohammed bin Salman ‘didn’t think he’d be kissing my a**’ and ‘thought he’d be just another American president that was a loser, where the country was going downhill.’ Trump added that the Saudi prince ‘has to be nice to me’ now. He quoted Mohammed bin Salman as telling him that a year ago the US ‘were a dead country’ but is now ‘literally the hottest country anywhere in the world.’ Trump characterised the Saudi Crown Prince as ‘very smart’ and ‘a regular kind of a guy.’ The remarks highlight Trump’s characterisation of the current US-Saudi dynamics under his administration.
