In a defiant address, Donald Trump criticised the U.S. Supreme Court for its ‘incorrect’ decision regarding the use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to collect fees. While praising Justices Thomas, Alito, and Kavanaugh for their dissents, Trump claimed the court was ‘swayed by foreign interests’ and ‘radical left Democrats’. Despite the legal setback, he asserted that the ruling confirmed his ‘unquestioned right’ to block trade and license imports. ‘Today I will sign an order to impose a 10% global tariff under Section 122,’ Trump announced, stating that existing national security tariffs under Sections 232 and 301 remain in full effect. He argued that alternative statutes, such as the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, provide even more powerful authorities to regulate trade. Trump also highlighted economic growth, noting the Dow Jones recently surpassed 50,000, and claimed his tariff policies are successfully bringing manufacturing back to the U.S. from countries like Mexico, Canada, and Taiwan.
