Trump LIVE: US President Trump Says ‘He Would Be Ok Launching Strikes On Drug Cartels In Mexico’
On Monday, President Donald Trump voiced strong support for taking decisive measures against drug cartels and cocaine production facilities in Mexico and Colombia, marking a further escalation in his administration’s hard-line stance on narcotics trafficking.
Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump reaffirmed his aggressive approach to combating maritime drug smuggling, noting that U.S. forces have recently been granted broader authority to disable or destroy vessels suspected of transporting illegal drugs in the Caribbean and Pacific regions.
When pressed on whether he would authorize ground operations inside Mexico to disrupt cartel activities, the president responded, “I’m fine with whatever it takes to stop the drugs coming in.” He went on to suggest that targeting cocaine-processing labs in Colombia was also under consideration, stating, “If we knocked out those labs, I’d be proud of it — proud to do it myself, actually. I’m not saying we’re doing it right now, but it would save millions of American lives.”The remarks stand in contrast to recent statements from Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who emphasized last week that the United States has no plans for unilateral military action inside Mexico and described bilateral security cooperation with Mexican authorities as being at an all-time high.
