At precisely 4:25 pm New York time, traders placed a staggering 580 million dollar bet on falling oil prices and rising equities. In just 60 seconds, 6,200 contracts were traded in Brent and West Texas crude futures, equivalent to 6.2 million barrels of oil. Fifteen minutes later, at 4:35 pm, Donald Trump posted on Truth Social claiming productive conversations with Iran and signalling a five-day pause on military strikes. The post was withdrawn and reposted with corrections minutes later. Markets reacted instantly as predicted, with oil prices falling and equities rallying. However, Iran’s IRNA news agency denied the claims entirely. Iranian Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf called it fake news and directly accused Trump of manipulating financial and oil markets. The report raises critical questions about whether this was sharp market instinct or insider trading, and who had privileged information about Trump’s post before it appeared.
