Fresh off of attending Pope Francis’s funeral in Rome, US President Donald Trump joked around about the upcoming selection of the new pontiff.
Asked about his thoughts on who should lead the Catholic Church, Trump offered a tongue-in-cheek response. "I’d like to be Pope," he quipped. "That would be my number one choice."
He then spoke in a more serious vein about Pope Francis’s potential successors. While stating he had no particular favourite, the US President mentioned Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the Archbishop of New York, as someone who could be "very good" for the role.
