Following a declaration on Hormuz by Donald Trump, US Defence Command Centcom forces have begun setting conditions to clear sea mines from the Strait of Hormuz. Two US Navy guided-missile destroyers, the USS Frank E. Petersen (DDG-121) and the USS Michael Murphy (DDG-112), have transited the strait and are currently operating in the Arabian Gulf. This deployment is part of a broader mission to ensure the waterway is completely free of sea mines previously laid by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps. In addition to the naval destroyers conducting these initial operations, US forces will deploy underwater drones in the coming days to join the clearance effort. The ongoing mission highlights immediate military actions being taken to secure the region and establish safe passage through the strait.
