US President Donald Trump has stated he is in conversation with Iranian leadership and hopes a deal will materialise, though he could not confirm details. When asked why Iran denies any direct or indirect contact with America, Trump attributed it to a lack of communication. He mentioned that if a deal goes through, the Strait of Hormuz will open immediately and be controlled by him and the next Ayatollah. Trump’s remarks have raised confusion as his administration was previously perceived to be pursuing regime change in Iran. Iran has denied reports of any talks with the United States. Trump also did not directly answer whether Israel was informed of his decision not to attack Iran’s energy infrastructure. Energy prices dropped 11 percent following his statements. Israel has not reacted or issued any statement regarding the decision to avoid targeting Iran’s energy facilities.
