Trump Calls Attack on Venezuela "Tactically Brilliant" and "An Amazing Military Feat"
President Donald Trump has praised the recent US operation in Venezuela that led to the capture of President Nicolás Maduro, calling it “brilliant tactically” and “an incredible thing.” Speaking at a House Republican retreat, Trump described Maduro as a violent leader accused of torturing people and mocked him for trying to imitate his dance style.
Trump also criticised Democrats for opposing the operation, arguing that they were being hypocritical. He said that if any administration does a good job for the country, it should be acknowledged. His remarks came after Secretary of State Marco Rubio briefed lawmakers on the operation, amid concerns about US actions abroad.
Maduro, indicted in 2020 on narco-terrorism charges, has pleaded not guilty. His wife was also detained, and Vice President Delcy Rodríguez has been sworn in as acting president.
