US President Donald Trump has announced a five-day ceasefire, stating America will not attack Iran’s power plants or energy infrastructure during this period. Trump claims productive talks have been underway with Iran over the last two days, suggesting Iran is desperate for dialogue and wants to end the war badly. He told US media a deal could be reached within five days. However, Iran’s Foreign Ministry has contradicted Trump’s claims, stating the US President has ulterior motives and is seeking time for military plans while attempting to decrease energy prices. The ceasefire comes 24 days into the West Asia conflict, amid mounting domestic and international pressure on Trump due to surging oil prices and economic impact. Brent crude prices have reached nearly $100 per barrel. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing Parliament on the crisis, emphasised that dialogue and diplomacy are the only solutions, assured India has adequate energy reserves for over 74 days, and urged citizens not to panic or hoard supplies, treating the situation like the COVID crisis.
