In a discussion on India’s power sector, Arun Sharma, CEO of Resonia, stated that transmission is central to the country’s energy transition, saying, ‘there’s no transition without transmission’. The panel addressed the challenge of adding two lakh circuit kilometers of transmission capacity by 2030 to meet renewable energy goals. Harsh Shah, Managing Director of IndiGrid, highlighted critical regulatory failures, noting that consumers bear the cost of delays, running into ‘thousands and thousands of crores’, due to vacancies at the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity (APTEL). The conversation also covered the role of public sector entities like Power Grid, with Director (Operations) Naveen Srivastava detailing investments of over ₹1,50,000 crores in the next few years. Sampitosh Mohapatra, Partner at PwC India, expressed skepticism about the ₹3 lakh crore Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme, arguing it will not solve structural issues without private sector participation.
