Admiral D K Tripathi, the Chief of the Indian Navy, warned that daily traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has dropped dramatically to just 6–7 transits, compared to the pre-conflict average of around 130. Speaking at a naval investiture ceremony, Tripathi said, since the West Asia conflict began, over 20 ships have reportedly been attacked, while nearly 1,900 vessels remain stranded in the region. The Strait of Hormuz, responsible for transporting roughly 20% of the world’s oil supply, has emerged as a major flashpoint.
