A new study by Brunel University London has revealed that over 150 chemicals can leach into drinks from plastic bottles, with 18 of them found at levels exceeding safety regulations. The study found that drinks bottled in recycled PET plastic had higher contamination than those using new PET, suggesting flaws in the recycling process. Researchers are now urging for improved recycling methods and better bottle design to prevent harmful chemical exposure. The findings, published in the Journal of Hazardous Materials, highlight growing concerns about plastic safety.
