To The Point With Preeti Choudhry: Minister Sparks Row, Calls DMK 'Uncivilised' Over NEP Refusal

The Chief Minister of Telangana, Revanth Reddy, admitted at the India Today Conclave that his state is facing a fiscal crisis due to freebie promises. He stated he can pay for guarantees but not debts or capital expenditure. This has sparked debate on competitive populism and fiscal prudence across Indian states. Maharashtra has also cut funding for its cash transfer scheme in its latest budget. The second leg of the budget session began with a clash over the National Education Policy. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan accused the DMK government of being ‘uncivilised’ for refusing to implement the NEP’s three-language policy. Tamil Nadu CM M.K. Stalin hit back, defending the state’s stance. Opposition parties staged a walkout demanding discussions on various issues including NEP, delimitation and Manipur.
