The air was thick, the visibility non-existent, and tempers ran high at India Gate on November 9, as Delhi residents gathered to protest the government’s perceived inaction on toxic air choking their city. Please note the timing of the protest: Exactly at 7 a.m., the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 312 already in the ‘severe’ category. However, the story was completely different for most citizens. Their private air-quality monitors in the same area showed a much higher AQI of around 520!
