Vaiko, a key ally of the ruling DMK, launched a blistering attack on Vijay following the actor’s statement that the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election would be a contest between TVK and the DMK. Vaiko stated that Vijay ‘does not even know the basics of politics and is "trying to build castle in the air"’. The MDMK leader also sharply criticised Vijay for his handling of the aftermath of a deadly stampede at a TVK rally in Karur on September 27, 2025, where at least 39 people died. Vaiko condemned Vijay’s decision to meet the victims’ families at a resort a month after the tragedy, labelling the move as irresponsible and a ‘trickery’.
