Alerted by villagers, security forces—including J&K Police, Army, and CRPF- swiftly cordoned off the region, leading to a fierce encounter where a Special Operations Group jawan was martyred and two others injured. The militants, believed to have infiltrated recently, were tracked to a forested hideout, sparking an ongoing massive search operation with escape routes sealed.
This incident follows a pattern of recent militant activity in the Basantgarh-Majalta belt, including an earlier clash that killed a cop. As of December 17, the hunt continues amid heightened alerts, with forces busting an old terrorist hideout nearby. Officials emphasise that credible intelligence led to the operation, raising concerns over border security and local vulnerabilities in remote areas.
