Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has resigned to address growing dissent within the state BJP as his government faces a possible no-confidence motion from the Congress and a floor test. He submitted his resignation to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla this evening after consulting with the party’s central leadership. While the BJP still holds a majority despite ally NPP pulling out, there were concerns that some MLAs seeking a leadership change might defy the party whip. To prevent any instability, Singh stepped down, paving the way for a new leadership in the state.
